What a Good PI Actually Brings to an Attorney’s Case
Attorneys and private investigators work best when they operate as a team from early in a case — not when the PI gets called in two weeks before trial to fix something that should have been addressed months ago. Understanding what we actually bring to the table helps make that relationship more productive from the start.
The most consistent value we provide is witness location and interviews. Courts expect attorneys to present witnesses. Finding those witnesses — particularly in criminal defense cases where the state isn’t motivated to help — often falls to the PI. We track people down across state lines, knock on doors, and conduct recorded interviews that can be used in depositions or at trial. We know how to get people talking, and we know how to document what they say.
Surveillance is another major area. Whether it’s a personal injury case where a claimant’s activity level is in dispute, a workers’ comp matter, or a domestic case, video documentation from a licensed investigator carries weight. We produce timestamped, GPS-verified footage with a chain of custody that holds up to scrutiny.
Background investigations are something we do for attorneys on both sides of the docket — verifying that a witness’s account is consistent with their history, identifying prior relationships that weren’t disclosed, checking whether an expert witness has a history that’s relevant to their credibility.
We also handle process service, which sounds simple but isn’t when a subject is actively avoiding service. Our approach — combining database research, surveillance, and social media checks before we ever make an attempt — gives us a significantly higher first-attempt success rate than most standard process servers.
If you’re an attorney in Georgia, Alabama, or South Carolina and you need investigative support, we’re worth a conversation. We work criminal defense, civil, domestic, and corporate matters, and we understand what evidence needs to look like to be useful in court.
